Has anyone thought of a class action lawsuit against the watchtower regarding their shunning policies? If Olin Moyle won, why wouldn't it happen again? -

A couple questions for atheists on Suffering
by little_Socrates inwho told you that the world should be free from suffering?.
do you find any value in suffering?.
do you think it is possible to experience all the beauty and goodness and pleasure the world offers without also experiencing the bad?

Suffering is part and parcel of advanced forms of life, who are subject to the inexorable transformation of the universe around us according to the physical laws that regulate it. Tsunamis, earthquakes, flooding, drowning, cancer, etcetera are subject to those laws and the only thing humans can do is to learn how those laws work to use them to their advantage and reduce suffering. It seems suffering is here to stay for as long as there is sentient organisms. The only way God can rid us of suffering is to kill us all. If I read the bible right, this capricious character may end suffering soon (remember Noah's ark). -

Ruby,
I join Cofty and Viviane.
I, however, never read much about mother Teresa, so I don't know if she is in a league with you. I wouldn't be surprised.
You know what, on a second thought, I think cofty was too nice. What you wrote is pure non sense.

Regarding the OP question.
Suffering, deep suffering, is to know that a large percentage (40 to 50% or something like that) of the U.S. population in the XXI century still believe in the literal interpretation of the creation account. My 29 year old nephew just wrote in an email : "this complex eco system we live in and the awesome universe our planet is in, it just does not seem logical to have come from evolution"
What's going on? It's so painful. I need words of consolation. I need someone to tell me that this superstitious age is going to end soon. I need help.

Jehovah's Witnesses Crime Map

Not good. The average crime outside of JW's is not represented, so there's no way to compare. Considering that the JW's are about 8 million people, the number of crimes put on the board looks quite small (I am sure less than 1%), therefore the argument really backfires. Also, something troublesome is that the creator of the map decided to criminalize the refusal of blood. As much as I dislike that policy, I have to consider that most judicial systems in the world don't call it a crime, therefore it's not a crime.
AAWA, please make a better effort not to do what the very people you criticize do.

Asshole Atheism – Not for me, now or ever.
by donny into start off with let me clarify that by asshole atheism i am not referring to strong atheism or any other type of upfront atheism.
what i am referring to is the belligerent, hateful atheism that smacks of trolls and other types who want to derail conversation or comments at any cost..
i enjoy hearing comments from both sides of the subjects of theism, nationalism or politics, especially from those who have intense opinions.

Donny,
Somehow I find myself agreeing with you, but I would also agree if you said asshole theism, or asshole agnosticism, or asshole pantheism, or asshole deism, or asshole anything. I think you could have named you topic a little better and would have made you look less like the very people you are railing against

Richard,
I find it interesting when people use dishonesty, error or bias in "scientific" circles as an opportunity to make general statements about science. Almost no field of science today is free from debate, disagreement, error, bias, personal interest, money interest, and a myriad of circumstances that make scientific progress not a straightforward, 100 % efficient and effective process, but you can bet your behind, overall is always improving. Nobody could make a similar case for religion, because its driving force is faith, which is confidence in something that can not be tested. The word improvement for religion does not apply. You can use the word change, but improvement, certainly not.

Richard, are you a Republican, or friendly to Republican issues? Nothing wrong with political affiliations. I just wonder if your view of the world is shaped by party affiliation.
